Loxahatchee - The Name

According to some recollections, the word Loxahatchee is a translation of the original Indian name which was Loochahatchee - looch meaning fool and hatchee meaning creek.  When written, “och” is two semi circles meeting in the middle, similar to an “x” - loahatchee.  The Indian translation for lox is turtle.  So, when Loxahatchee was written on maps it was translated as turtle’s creek.
